5 Summer Essentials for a Happy Body

Not up for the whole "new year, new you" story? Neither are we.

But it's summer! And it's bikini weather so of course you want to be feeling, and looking your best. So instead of beating your body to pulp just because January 1st has come (and gone!), try and get a little bit of our 5 essentials that will make your body sing.

1. 😎 V I T A M I N  D

Low Vit D levels is not uncommon if you work indoors, travel by car and workout inside! But as a hormone, Vit D is so important in your supporting your metabolism as well as improving mood - why wouldn't you want more? Getting your daily dose of rays is the easiest (and cheapest) way to boost your mood and re-energise your body.
Recommendations say to get 15-20mins a day (exposed arms, face and legs) outside of 10am - 3pm, of course being sensible on these crazy hot days!⁠

2. 🐟 O M E G A 3

​It's one of the healthy fats that helps with anti-inflammatory properties, heart health and brain development. Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds all contain O-3 as well as oily fleshed fish 3 times a week. A little tip to support sustainable seafood is choose smaller or filter fishes like sardines, mackerel, oysters and mussels instead of salmon and tuna as they take longer to grow (and take more resources from the sea).⁠

3. 🥦 F I B R E (for an improved gut)

​Who wants a bloated tummy in bikinis? Increasing your daily fibre (particular soluble types such as oats, chia seeds, psyllium husks, nuts and fruits) can help with improving digestion and motility of your stools. Which means you can move things more often, reducing the amount of time waste sits in your tummy to ferment. If you don't think your poo routine is on track, then usually it's a sign that something isn't too happy in your gut garden.

4. 🚰 H Y D R A T I O N

​It's simple, but easy forgotten! Drinking at least 2L of water a day WILL improve concentration, reduce fatigue and any nasty headaches. Is our skin dry and flaky? It doesn't matter how much body lotion you rub in, if your skin can't hydrate from within then it's going to take a long time to replenish itself. 5. 😴 S L E E P (lack of)

Is definitely the new smoking. Don't compromise on what your body needs to rest, replenish and repair to live another day. That's why they call it beauty sleep! Optimal quantity is between 7-9 hours a night, but quality is important too. Take the time to set up a routine, and try to hit the hay at the same time every night.
